He was born on 2 November 1960, in Delhi, India, to veteran Bollywood music composer Sardar Malik and Tarachand Barjatya’s sister Kamal Barjatya. His father and uncle Kalyanji-Vishnudas were two of the most famous Bollywood composers of their time, while grandfather Laxmikant Pyarelal composed several Hindi film songs. Anu began learning Hindi classical music from Ustad Abdul Hussain Khan Saheb at a very young age. 

    Anu went on to study Western music at St Xavier’s College in Bombay and had formal training in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. At this young age, he worked on the song “Bando Maakano Chanda” for Dev Anand’s movie Johny Mera Naam (1971). This song established him as a promising musician/composer within the industry. Since then, Anu has done over 2000 songs across various languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu & Gujarati amongst others.
