    J-Hope, also known as Jung Ho-Seok, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, dancer, and record producer. In 2013, under the Big Hit Entertainment banner, he made his debut as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS.

    In 2018, J-Hope released Hope World, his debut solo mixtape. It garnered favorable reviews from critics and reached its peak at position 38 on the US Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting album by a Korean solo artist at the time. His song “Chicken Noodle Soup,” which features singer Becky G, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 81 in 2019, making him the first member of BTS to do so. He issued Jack in the Box, his self-titled studio debut, in 2022. He and J. Cole released “On the Street” as a single in 2023.

    On February 18, 1994, in Gwanju Metropolitan City, Jung Ho-Seok was born.

    J-Hope comes from an old-fashioned Korean household. His family comprises one older sister, his mother, and his father. His mother works as well, and his father is a lecturer at a high school.

    His mother helped Jung Ho-Seok from work in another nation despite the fact that his father is against his interest in dancing and singing. Jung Ji-woo is the name of his older sister. She is four years older than J Hope and runs the MEJIWOO clothing line, which she designs and models.

    He began his studies for the Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media program at Hanyang Cyber University in March 2019. Broadcasting and Entertainment is the degree he previously earned from Global Cyber University.

    Early Life

    J-Hope attended dance lessons at the Gwangju Music Academy for six years, from the fourth grade through his first year of high school when he signed with Big Hit Entertainment, before making his dance team debut with BTS. He was also a member of the underground dance group Neuron. 

    He had some local recognition for his dancing prowess and had won several local competitions, including taking first place in a national dance competition in 2008. After developing an interest in singing as a result of his dance, he applied to be an idol trainee. The 2012 single “Animal” by singer Jo Kwon featured him as a featured rapper while he was still in training.

    J-Hope made his M! Countdown debut on June 13, 2013, as a member of BTS. He followed RM and Suga as the third trainee to join the group. 

    “Intro: Boy Meets Evil,” “Mama,” and “Trivia: Just Dance” are three solo tracks he has published under the band’s moniker. The first two were made available in 2016 as a part of BTS’s Wings, their second studio album.

    His first release as BTS was the song “No More Dreams” in June 2013, and his first mixtape as a solo artist was Hope World in March 2018. In the US, J Hope is placed 19th for Top Rank Albums.

    2019 saw the release of “Chicken Noodle Soup,” a song J Hope co-wrote with BTS members, for which he shot numerous videos. The first BTS member to chart on the Hot 100 as a solo artist is Jung Ho-Seok.

    On the song “A Brand New Day” for the BTS World soundtrack, he also worked with bandmate V and Swedish singer Zara Larsson. On June 14, 2019, it became available.

    J-Hope was the first BTS member to start solo artist promotions, the lead track “More” from his debut solo album Jack in the Box, which was made available on July 1, came first.

    He was a featured artist on Crush’s song “Rush Hour” in September. At the MAMA Awards, where he was up for six prizes, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, he made his solo performance debut on November 30 as the show’s opening act. On December 31, he performed for the first time by himself at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

    J-Hope in the Box, a documentary that details the creation of his debut solo album and his performance at Lollapalooza, was made available for global streaming on Weverse and Disney+ in February 2023.  On March 3, American rapper J. Cole and J-Hope jointly released the song “On the Street” for public consumption. Additionally, his peak on the US Hot 100 was at number 60.

    He’s currently enlisted in the military and will resume working as a group member with BTS in 2025. The BTS Armies are patiently waiting for his return and for the announcement of his resuming his activities as a group.

    He is a really good and honest person who usually smiles and looks out for other people. He gave the Child Fund Korea 150 million won (approximately $133,000 USD) in December 2018 and 100 million won (about $89,000 USD) in February 2019.

    He invested US$1.6 million in a South Korean flat in 2016 for his own use. In Hannam-dong, Seoul, South Korea, as of 2018, he resides with his bandmates.

    After the Military Duty Act underwent changes in December 2020, he was automatically granted a delay of his required military duty starting in 2021 and lasting until the end of 2022. J-Hope filed a request for the termination of such postponement on February 26, 2023, and Big Hit said that J-Hope will be going through with his enlistment. On April 18, he signed up to serve in the military as an active duty soldier at the Army A Division Recruit Training Centre in the South Korean province of Gangwon.

    He joined the “Green Noble Club” in 2018, which honors Child Fund Korea’s most valuable donors. On February 18, 2019, he gave the group a donation of 100 million (US$90,000) in support of the students at his former high school in Gwangju. 

    He gave a donation of $100 million on November 17, 2020, to help kids who were struggling financially because of the COVID-19 outbreak. He gave $150 million on February 18, 2021, to help young people with hearing and vision problems. On May 4, in honor of Children’s Day, he gave $100 million to Tanzanian children who were victims of violence.

    He donated $100 million via the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association in 2022 to help individuals affected by the floods in Seoul, South Korea. Through the Korean UNICEF Committee, he contributed $100 million in February 2023 to the Turkey-Syria earthquake relief fund for children.
