    Atul Kulkarni is an Indian film actor and highly decorated theater artist who has become renowned as one of the industry’s most dynamic and versatile actors. His work has been widely acclaimed, garnering two National Film Awards and four state Nandi Awards for outstanding performances. He made his debut in Mani Ratnam’s 1992 Tamil film Thiruda Thiruda. He went on to star in many critically and commercially successful films across different language industries, including Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam and English. The Government of India recognized his incredible career achievements with the Padma Shri award in 2017 for his immense contribution to the Arts.

    Atul Kulkarni was born on 10th September 1965 in Belgaum, Karnataka, to a family of Marathi Deshastha Brahmin. His father Late Shri Rambhau Kulkarni worked in the Geological Survey of India while his mother late Smt. Sulabha Kulkarni was a homemaker. As a child Atul developed an interest in acting and literature and participated actively in school productions. 

    He completed his secondary education at St Mary’s High School, Goa and moved to Mumbai for higher studies after getting selected for National Cadet Corps (NCC). After graduating from Mithibai College, he got admitted at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where he completed a course to further enhance his performance skills as an actor and received formal training from director Amal Allana at National School of Drama. 

    Intending to pursue brighter horizons Atul enrolled himself for MBA program but dropped out soon after starting it due to lack of interest and went back to theater instead joining Motley Theatre Group which Naseeruddin Shah and Tom Alter ran on invitation by Satish Kaushik who had earlier seen him performing in plays during college days. He went onto perform many acclaimed plays such as ‘Kalyug’ and even wrote one called ‘Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai’, which earned him accolades from critics across India.

    Atul Kulkarni is an Indian actor and writer. He was born in Belgaum, Karnataka, India on 10 September 1965. Atul graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune in 1989. He made his debut in Sandhya Davis’s Naseem (1995).

    Atul has received numerous awards for his performances including two National Awards for Chandni Bar (2001) and Rang De Basanti (2006). He also won a Special Jury Award at the 2007 International Cinematographers Film Festival for his performance in Doordarshan’s Chumbh-Faadle (2005).

    In addition to acting, Atul has written several plays such as Mahanirvan, Chaupadi Aahet Ka?, Amrit Manthan, Antim Grahan and Unhat Vedya. His acclaimed play Kichaka Vadha was produced by The Times of India Group’s theater group – Theatre Action Group. Atul Kulkarni also heads Theatre Academy of Marathi Natya Parishad where he mentors young actors who are passionate about theater and Marathi cinema.

    Atul Kulkarni is an Indian actor and writer who has appeared in over 40 feature films in four languages – Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. He has acted in some of the most critically acclaimed films such as ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Virasat’ and ‘Theeran Adhigaram Ondru’. He is highly acclaimed for his versatile performances across genres ranging from comedy to drama, action to romance. 

    Kulkarni began his career on stage with a leading role in the play Pratibimba at Sahitya Sangh in Pune before creating a niche for himself in regional cinema with two standout performances as Moreshwar Ingle and Bhaiyya Deshpande In Rajdhani Express (1997). This was followed by several memorable roles that established him as one of India’s finest actors.
