Samsung & LG unveiled foods tech expertise suitable for their home devices leveraging AI and IoT answers at this year's all digital Consumer Electronics Show 2021.
At its press event for CES 2021, Samsung unveiled SmartThings Cooking service that uses technologies from Whisk, a British food technology startup acquired by Samsung in 2019.
An instant Meal Planner powered by Whisk's Food AI suggests meals for the entire week, makes shopping lists together with the ingredients you need, and connects to grocery retailers for one-stop shopping directly from the Family Hub fridge or your mobile phone. "Recipe instructions may be delivered straight to synced Samsung cooking products to manage mistakes and hassles" according to Samsung, SmartThings Cooking can recommend personalized recipes based on people’s tastes and preferences. The service also helps people’s grocery shopping through major retailers, including Walmart, Kroger, and Amazon Fresh, using the Whisk network.
Samsung said its owners of the Family Hub refrigerators can easily manage their meal planning from the smart fridge as it comes with an exclusive full-screen dedicated board for the service. Family Hub refrigerators are able to check what's inside the refrigerator and add missing ingredients to consumer's online grocery carts for home shipping.
LG introduced food-related services which use its LG ThinQ wedge on its panel talk event.
The business highlighted its scan-to-cook feature with the LG ThinQ app, which enables customers to have the appropriate settings all over their LG ovens for pre-prepared meals by simply scanning the package barcode.
LG said its scan-to-cook function is going to support meal systems from Tovala, a US-based all-in-one appliance and gourmet meal service provider, & applications from home food manufacturers, like Kraft-Heinz and Nestle.
The idea is that although internet shopping and meal kits & ovens are all different groups of services and products, so long as they're all parts of one job, we have to connect them up. And it is that connection that improves the user experience.
